| Midland Painted Turtle (Chrysemys picta marginata) |
|||||||
| This is the most common and familiar species of turtle found in Essex County. It is dark olive or brown on top with bright red spotting and streaking along the sides and under the shell. The feet and neck also have the bright red vermiculations, turning to yellow around the head. It can be found in most permanent bodies of water, often basking with others turtles on logs or along the shoreline on sunny days. |
