| Green Frog (Rana clamitans melanota) |
|||||||
| Common and widespread throughout the county, this is one of our most often encountered frogs. Green Frogs are medium to large frogs and are can be easily confused with the similar Bull Frog. Green Frogs always have 2 dorsolateral folds or ridges running down the back, a feature not found on Bull Frogs and they also have a green upper lip, a feature not always found on bullfrogs but always present on this species and as adults are much smaller. Green Frogs are easily found along pond edges, ditches and marshes. They eat anything they can overpower, including other Green Frogs, chorus frogs, snakes, insects, worms and even minnows. |
