| Butler's Gartersnake (Thamnophis butleri) |
||||||||
| This has to be one of favourite snakes and is always an exciting find. They are rather small, they have a smallish head and they tend to have a very rich colour and bold striping. Unlike the Eastern Gartersnake this species shows very little variation in colour and pattern, they all look similar. I can remember finding many more Butler's Gartersnakes when I was a kid than I could possibly find today so they are declining but in the right habitat they can still be found pretty regularly. I only see this species around grassy areas, often with water nearby. |
